The groundbreaking ceremony officially marked the launch of the IRCAD América Latina expansion and the future Clinical Research and Robotic Surgery Center in Barretos. On May 15, Professor Jacques Marescaux joined President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for an official visit to the Barretos Institute, highlighting how robotic surgery, clinical research, and medical education are expanding access to advanced minimally invasive care across Brazil.
Led by Mr. Henrique Prata, the delegation included the Vice President, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Telecommunications, the Minister of Economy and Innovation, and the leadership team of Hospital de Amor. Following the tour, a private lunch hosted at Mr. Prata’s ranch provided an opportunity to further discuss innovation, technology, education, and human-centered healthcare. The delegation’s five-hour presence reflected the growing importance of this robotic surgery project as a national priority, and the impact of IRCAD América Latina for both Barretos and the entire country. To conclude the ceremony, a priest gave his blessing to the architectural plans and scale model of the future center, a meaningful moment in a deeply religious country such as Brazil.
