IRCAD is proud to announce a new collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), as part of its Digital Innovation Investment Platform (DIIP), to support the responsible and equitable development of virtual care and telesurgery.

Through its international network of 9 institutes across 5 continents, IRCAD will contribute its expertise, training capabilities, robotic platforms, and connectivity infrastructure to help countries progressively develop remote surgical assistance: from telementoring, teleproctoring, and telesurgery.

More than 25 years after the Lindbergh Operation, the challenge is no longer simply to prove that remote surgery is technically possible. The next step is to create the conditions for its safe, sustainable, and large-scale deployment worldwide.

This initiative was also presented on September 22 in New York City, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, during a WHO Foundation meeting bringing together representatives from several countries interested in the first pilot programs.

As Prof. Jacques Marescaux explains, the ambition remains the same: to ensure that geography is no longer a barrier to accessing high-quality surgical expertise.
